A Gala to Remember - "Denim and Diamonds"

Once again a cohesive team of parents presented a fabulous Denim & Diamonds Gala for our school and the local Houston community. Over 140 guests enjoyed an evening of excellent food, a live and silent auction, and music in the Red Oak Ballroom at City Centre. Guests included parents, staff, board members, friends of the school and their guests.

Funds raised from the gala will significantly address need in the new Middle School.  Effective efforts to also raise funds for scholarships began with the bidding of $50. Guests from table to table quickly raised their "denim pocket" bidding number to participate in this worthwhile activity, directly impacting deserving students. This program is still open for those who would like to participate. Please contact the school if you wish to contribute to scholarships.

The evening began with a one-hour silent auction preview social. Once the guests were seated in the ballroom, Emily Smith, Head of School, expressed her appreciation for the parent organizers and the hours of commitment devoted to the event.

A live auction commenced at 7:30 with Ted Vincent as auctioneer. Ted is a favorite at the Laff Spot, Improv, and Comedy Showcase comedy clubs in Houston.  The crowd seemed pleased with his appropriately clever comments to encourage higher bids for auction items. One big-ticket item in the live auction was a three-day driving supercar  extravaganza donated by the Houston Motor Club. DJ Andy Smith entertained the party-goers with karaoke and music for those who wished to dance the night away.

Event organizers included Chairs Deborah and John Crisp, Co-Chairs Charles and JoAnn Meyer, Communications Chair Carolyn White, Auctions Chair Betsy West, Treasurer Mary Jones, and Decorations Chair Judie Nelson.

Carolyn White, Communications Chair for the event said, "It was wonderful to see the parent and community involvement with this event."

Emily Smith, Head of School, commenting about the evening, said, "The event was expertly planned by our dedicated parents, and the beautiful new venue was thoroughly enjoyed by all."
