Newsflash:

We have divided our time this week between slavery and science fair projects, an interesting combination. We learned about slavery in Texas and read about two women slaves who had entirely different experiences. As I was reading each story, the class took notes on each individual’s life. We then did a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting both lives. Then we turned our Venn diagram into an outline and wrote a compare and contrast paper. We had an interesting discussion on why slavery ever happened and the effects of slavery on people today. This led to a discussion on how each of us could stop discrimination. They all felt so strongly that discrimination was wrong and many of them questioned how people could be so insensitive. It was a great discussion with deep insight on all their parts.

As you all know, we started preparing for their science projects. The proposals have been turned in, and they can start on them over spring break, if you wish. We did two sample projects in class this week so they could see how to write and perform a project. Please help your child take accurate readings and keep them on track. We will be writing the reports and designing the tri-folds starting March 28.

Thank you for attending the meeting about the upcoming trip to San Antonio. I will keep you posted on further developments.

Please remember that Stanford testing starts March 28. This is the day after Easter. Please make sure your child is well rested and on time that day as one child late or missing affects the entire testing process.

Have a great spring break!
