Visiting Author and Former NASA Flight Controller Addresses Students

Marianne Dyson, award-winning author and former NASA flight controller signs books during the annual book fair at The Branch School. Also in photo are Book Fair Chair Liliana Castillo, fifth grader Alexa Castillo, and Fifth Grade teacher Laura Davis. The visiting author spoke to second through fifth graders and interested parents on how to "Reach for the Moon and Become a Star." She was one of the first ten women flight controllers for NASA and now shares her passion for space through writing and presentations. The author is a 2004 American Institute of Physics Writing Award Winner for her non-fiction book, Home on the Moon and the 2000 Golden Kite Award Winner for her book Space Station Science, 2nd edition and 2004 Family Choice Award among others. Additional books that she has authored include a nonfiction book, Space and Astronomy and a fiction anthology entitled Best of Girls to the Rescue.
