Students showing Sequoia project

Collaborative Integrated Problem Solving

Sequoia is project-based learning activity where 5th through 8th graders work together to integrate several disciplines focusing on creativity and collaboration. The topics change each year based on student interest.

Sequoia is a fictitious country where the students have established regions as well as the government. This year the class created educational venues in small groups. For each venue the students created a three-dimensional model of their venue. They also designed brochures that gave specific reasons for teachers to bring their students.

In addition, they designed modes of transportation to get them from one region to another. They also wrote a description of their transportation system in Spanish and English.

More information about this hands-on, inquiry-based learning can be found under middle school academics.
