Looking for the right school for your child is hard. You’re looking for a school that checks all your boxes: low student/teacher ratio, credentialed and engaging teachers, beautiful facilities, strong curriculum, accessible administrators, character education, plenty of outdoor time, diversity, strong accreditation, etc. However, there’s another factor to assess. At The Branch School we would encourage you to not overlook the importance of an overall school community that you will feel comfortable in, and where you feel your family belongs.
At Branch, we know it is important that students and parents feel connected and part of our school community. Connection is vital to a happy school experience. It enables parents to feel comfortable participating in school events, getting advice from a teacher or discussing a concern with the administration of the teachers. Feeling comfortable give children confidence, to raise their hands in class and ask questions. Confidence, and a deep settled comfort from knowing their teacher respects them and cares about them deeply, is like rocket fuel for learning. Making friends, being included, not getting teased or made fun of makes school a safe haven to be themselves. Being celebrated for our differences and our diversity enriches the class environment and enriches the learning experience for all. Parents and teachers all want the same thing – for students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.
We’re often told that our school community feels like a family. Our teachers and staff truly know our students and parents, so the school environment feels warm, welcoming, and safe. We value and cherish this aspect of Branch deeply. We want school to be a place where students want to come to school and where parents connect with other parents and feel welcome to participate.
We try hard to cultivate a fun and engaging environment that offers our families opportunities to socialize and make lifelong friendships. With the help of our Parents Association, a variety of social activities are held during the year like Fall Carnival, Fall N2 Fitness Fun Run, International Festival and many half-day social outings. We love seeing the huge smiles on our students’ faces at these exciting events. Parents are invited to volunteer as much (or as little!) as they can, and we have a variety of ways to for them to get involved in class activities, field trips, and all-school events.
One of the favorite school events for many is our upcoming STEAM Night. Families are invited to spend an evening at school participating in a variety of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math themed activities. We always love sneaking in some real-life learning amidst this fun evening that includes a variety of stimulating activities. Can you complete a Rubik’s cube challenge, or craft a boat that floats on water with just newspaper? Can you successfully make a slides and tube ball run or program a robot and use the launcher to score points in a basketball net? Each teacher has age appropriate activities planned for our students, families and visitors.
This year’s STEAM Night is on Thursday, October 19 from 4:45-6:30 p.m., and we are also holding a very informal Open House for the community. We invite you to come challenge yourself during this enjoyable event, meet current Branch families, and learn why Branch is different. If you’d like to attend, please RSVP below, and bring your family. We look forward to meeting you and showing you why Branch is considered to be one of the best private schools in Houston!
